SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team fell at Marywood University 86-79, on Saturday afternoon in an Atlantic East Conference matchup.
Jalen Vaughns led the Knights with a double-double, 24 points and 12 rebounds.
Jarell Keel netted 14 points.
TJ Lewis and
Ja'bri White each added 12.
The game came down to the final five minutes. A layup by Vaughns put the Knights up by one, 70-69, after being down by as many as nine earlier in the half. With 3:32 left in regulation, the teams were knotted at 75. The Pacer hit a three-pointer and score the next seven points to build back their lead. Two free throws by Keel with 57 seconds left brought Neumann back to within three, 82-79. A dunk and two free throws by Marywood held off the comeback.
The first half featured five lead changes and three tied scores. Each team went on mini runs. Neumann scored the final four points of the half and Marywood took a 39-36 lead into halftime.
To open the second half,
Amari Little hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 39. The Pacers went on built a nine-point lead, 57-49, with 12:46 on the clock. With a 67-60 score, the Knights scored six straight points to pull within one and set up the final five minutes of regulation.
Neumann (8-15, 6-4 Atlantic East) hosts Marymount on Tuesday night to begin the final week of the regular season. The Atlantic East tip-off is slated for 8:00 PM.
