ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team came-from-behind and defeated Immaculata University 67-64 in Atlantic East Conference action on Friday evening. Junior
TJ Lewis scored his 1,000
th career point at Neumann in the win.
Lewis finished with the 16 points he needed to reach the 1,000-point mark. He went 2-for-2 from three-point range along with 4-for-4 from the line.
Jarell Keel tallied a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds while adding three blocks.
Kyle Thompson netted 12 points and
Uche Unegbu added 10.
Each team made runs in the first half and had a tied score four times. Tied at 28 with 3:20 left in the first half, the Mighty Macs went on a 13-5 run to end the half and take a 41-33 lead into the break.
Immaculata opened the second half with an 11-2 run to take a 52-35 advantage. With the Mighty Macs leading 56-37 with 12:08 on the clock, the Knights went on a 19-0 run over an eight-minute span to take a 58-56 lead on a three-pointer by Thompson. The basket to pull Neumann within one, 56-55, was a three-pointer by Lewis and his 1,000
th career point.
The Mighty Macs broke their scoreless drought with the next basket to tie the game at 58 and lead to the exciting finish. Unegbu hit a three-point to put the Knights back in the lead. Immaculata scored the next four points for a one-point edge, 62-61. A layup by
Ja'bri White with 2:07 on the clock gave Neumann back the lead, 63-62.
The teams traded jumpers in the final minute. Thompson was fouled and went 2-for-2 from the line for a three-point game. Immaculata had two looks to tie the game and send it to overtime, but neither fell and the Knights clinched a home playoff game with the win.
Neumann (9-16, 7-5 Atlantic East) will be the No. 4 seed in the postseason and will host Immaculata in an Atlantic East first round contest on Monday evening beginning at 8:00 PM.
