LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Neumann University men's volleyball team defeated Cairn University 3-0 on Thursday evening. Set scores were 25-21, 25-21 and 25-22.
Trey Edmonds led the Knights with 10 kills. Veryl Bruns and
Isaiah Raye-Ryan each added five.
Dan Barckholtz handed out 26 assists and tallied three service aces.
Brandon Baskerville notched eight digs.
Neumann jumped out to a 5-0 lead to open the match. Cairn chipped its way back and tied the set at 13. The Knights would then score two points for each Highlanders point to take a 19-16 edge. An Edmonds kill sealed the 25-21 set one win.
Tied at 20 in the second set, Neumann scored four straight points, capped on a kill by Burns. After an attack error, another Edmonds kill gave the Knights a 25-21 set two win.
The Highlanders took an early 7-2 lead in the third set. The Knights scored the next six points to take an 8-7 edge. The teams went back and forth and were tied late at 19. Neumann scored the next three points to get to 22. After two Cairn points, a kill by
Victor John put the Knights at 23. A Highlanders kill made it a 23-22 score. Another kill by Edmonds and a bad set by Cairn gave Neumann the 25-22 set and 3-0 match win.
Neumann (9-5) heads to Wilson this weekend for tri-match. The Knights will face Penn State Schuylkill at 12:00 PM followed by Wilson at 2:00 PM.
