REISTERSTOWN, Md. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team dropped a 6-3 decision against Stevenson University in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game on Saturday night.
Neumann got on the board first, just 2:41 into the game when
Ben Gibbons streaked in on the right side and fired his third goal of the season.
Tyson Rohrer got the lone assist for the early 1-0 lead. Just two and a half minutes later,
Tyler Kulas sprung loose and rifled home a goal.
Tyler Kennedy and
Luke Croucher earned the assists as the Knights doubled their advantage. Stevenson fought back with a power play goal with 11:18 left in the period. They then tied the game with six minutes remaining. They weren't done yet as they took a 3-2 lead on another power play goal with 2:05 on the clock.
The second was a much calmer period with just two goals. Kulas, while on the power play, snapped in his second of the game, seventh of the season, tying the game at three. Kennedy and
Tony Andrews had the assists. Stevenson retook the lead with 32 seconds left in the period, giving them a one-goal lead heading into the final regulation period.
At the 7:22 mark of the third, the Mustangs doubled their lead. With the goalie pulled, Neumann had numerous chances to strike but, with 53 seconds left, Stevenson sealed the game with an empty net goal.
Yancy Whitaker led the Knights' offense with four shots on goal. Kulas and
Tyler Inlow had three each.
Cole DeFazio made 36 saves in the effort.
Neumann(5-14, 5-10 UCHC) will be back in action on Wednesday night when the host Arcadia University in a pivotal UCHC match-up. The opening face-off from the IceWorks Skating Complex is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
