Men’s Hockey Ties Arcadia, Falls in Shootout

ASTON, Pa. – 65 minutes weren't enough to decide things on Wednesday night as the Neumann University Men's Hockey team were locked in a 3-3 tie against United Collegiate Hockey Conference(UCHC) rivals, Arcadia University. Arcadia took the shootout, 2-1 in four rounds.

Both squads of Knights had their chances to strike over the first few minutes but it was Arcadia who got on the board first with 9:32 left in the first, for the only goal of the opening frame. Neumann was able to  equalize early in the second when PJ Demitrio scored just 1:19 in. TJ Ezzard and Tyler Inlow grabbed assists. At the 4:03 mark, Yancy Whitaker notched his team-leading eighth goal of the season, giving Neumann a 2-1 lead. Max Mila and Ezzard earned the assists.

The lead didn't last long as Arcadia tied the game at 32 seconds later on a power play goal. With 38 seconds left in the period, the struck again to retake the lead. With the goalie pulled for an extra attack, and while short-handed, Demitrio picked up his second goal of the game, with assists by Luke Croucher and Tyler Kennedy, forcing overtime.

Although Neumann had a power play for most of the overtime, they were unable to finish the game with a win. In the shootout, Arcadia took a 1-0 lead after two rounds but Brady Mistler scored in the third to tie things up. In the fourth, Arcadia was able to take the extra UCHC point.

In addition to Demitrio's two-goal performance, he lead Neumann with nine shots on goal. Croucher followed the seven while Mistler and Whitaker had five shots each. Cole DeFazio finished with 27 saves in goal.

Neumann (5-14-1, 5-10-1 UCHC) will return to action on Friday, when they host Nazareth University in an important UCHC matchup. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
