ASTON, Pa. – On a day when eight Neumenn University Women's Hockey seniors were honored, the Knights dropped a 4-1 decision at the hand of Manhattanville College in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference game on Saturday afternoon.
The emotion of the pregame ceremony carried over into the game when just 1:14 in,
Meg Landman scored an unassisted goal, her fifth goal of the season, giving Neumann an early 1-0 lead. Manhattanville equalized at the 13:38 mark and then took the lead on a power play goal just under four minutes later.
After a scoreless second period, in which the Knights were outshot 21-3, the Valiants added to their lead at the 8:21 mark of the third. With the net empty, and in spite of the Knights outshooting Manhattanville 11-9 in the period, the Valiants sealed the game with an empty net goal with 45 seconds left in regulation.
Gia Santorello,
Jamiyah Alexander, and
Charlotte Labre led the attack with three shots on goal each. Labre was also strong defensively with three blocked shots, equaling
Emma Tauken. Goaltender
Ella Sciborski kept the Knights in the game with a 40 save performance between the pipes.
Neumann (4-15-2, 0-14-2 UCHC) will return to action on Friday when they head north to take on Wilkes University in another UCHC match-up. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
