MADISON, N.J. – The Neumann University men's volleyball team battled in a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon. The Knights fell in four, 3-1, to Eastern, before dropping a 3-0 decision to host Drew.
Against the Eagles,
Trey Edmonds tallied 16 kills.
Veryl Burns added eight kills.
Dan Barckholtz handed out 31 assists.
Christian Johnson notched eight digs. The team finished with 15 total blocks, led by Burns with five block assists.
The Eagles took the first two sets by 25-20 and 25-14 scores. The Knights held the pace in the third set and with a 19-16 lead, scored four straight points for a 23-16 advantage. Kills by Edmonds and Burns sealed the 25-19 set three win to force a fourth set.
The Knights jumped out to a 7-1 lead to start the fourth set. Leading 18-17, Neumann scored five of the next six points for a 23-18 advantage. The Eagles were able to score the next seven to come-from-behind and take the set 25-23 and the match 3-1.
Against Drew, Edmonds finished with eight kills.
JP Perdomo added seven. Barckholtz handed out 18 assists. Barckholtz and
Brandon Baskerville each had seven digs.
The first set went back and forth, and the teams were tied at 14. The Rangers then scored 11 of the next 12 points, including eight in a row for the 25-15 set one win. Neumann stayed within striking distance in the second and third sets but could not close either out and Drew won 25-23 and 25-22 for the 3-0 match win.
Neumann (12-7) hosts King's on Tuesday evening beginning at 6:00 PM.
