ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Lacrosse team defeated Notre Dame of Maryland in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 16-5.
The Knights got off to a hot start as
Cionni Warrington scored three minutes into the contest.
Ainsley George followed four minutes later, sending Neumann on what would be a 5-0 run.
Maggie Blemings scored with 5:01 remaining in the quarter then George scored twice more before Notre Dame got on the board. Blemings closed the scoring, giving the Knights a 6-1 lead after one.
The Gators got the first goal of the second with the player up before Neumann notched the next three in the quarter.
Maggie Miller scored twice and Warrington also scored, giving the Knights a 9-2 lead at the half. George opened the third before the Gators got on the board again. Blemings and
Rex Thenor followed with markers 1:21 apart then George scored with the player up as Neumann led by ten after three.
51 seconds into the fourth, Notre Dame again scored but the Knights scored three of the last four goals of the game. Warrington scored twice and Blemings scored once to close out the contest.
George led all scorers with five while both Blemings and Warrington had four each. Miller finished with two, as she also caused three turnovers and scooped up six ground balls.
Catriona Corrigan made seven saves pulling her within one save of the all-time Neumann record.
Neumann (2-2) will be back in action on Tuesday when they head south to take on Virginia Wesleyan University. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
