Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Virginia Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Neumann University Women's Lacrosse team upended Virginia Wesleyan University in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 8-7.
 
Virginia Wesleyan got the game started with a goal 3:14 into the game. Neumann had some early chances to equalize and finally capitalized when Ainsley George scored from a pass by Maggie Miller, tying the game up with 6:44 left in the first. The Marlins retook the lead 18 seconds later and added another at the 1:14 mark. The Knights pulled back within one with 18 seconds remaining when George fired home a shot, making it a 3-2 game after one.
 
The Knights added two more goals at 13:33 and 12:53 from Miller and George, giving the Knights a 4-3 lead. The Dolphins tied the game up with 9:29 left in the second. With 3:20 left in the half, Catriona Corrigan made Neumann University history as she made save number 688 for her career, making her the all-time leader in saves in program history.  
 
Three minutes into the third, Miller allowed Neumann to take the lead once again. Three and half minutes later, Maggie Blemings received a pass from Rex Thenor, doubling the advantage. Both teams continued to get their opportunities, and with four seconds left in the quarter, the Marlins pulled back within one.
 
Just over a minute into the fourth, Virginia Wesleyan equalized the game at six apiece. Two minutes later, Miller got things back on track, and then Adriana O'Heron got a player-up goal 1:03 later for a two-goal lead. With 5:45 left, the Marlins got their own player-up goal to pull within one, but that's as close as they would get.
 
Miller finished with a hat-trick and an assist in addition to scooping up four ground balls and five caused turnovers. George also had a hat-trick with four ground balls and a caused turnover. Blemings added a goal and two assists, causing three turnovers and nabbing two ground balls. Corrigan made five saves to help seal the win.
 
Neumann(3-2) will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they return home to face Bryn Athyn College. The opening draw control is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
