GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Neumann University Baseball team fell in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 11-5 against Rowan University.
The game got started with, when one out,
AJ Nardo was hit by a pitch. Two batters later,
Isaiah Payton reached on an error, moving Nardo to third.
Brandon Colon drove in the game's first run with a single to plate Nardo. Rowan responded in the bottom of the frame with an RBI double and an RBI single, to take the lead. In the third, the Profs extended the lead on a run-scoring error, a sacrifice fly, and an RBI single, for a 5-1 game.
Rowan pushed on with three more RBI hits in the fourth. The Knights attempted to get back into the game in the top of the seventh as
Marcus White led off with a walk and
Josh Finger singled to left.
Anthony Rakotz hit an RBI double to left followed by a run-scoring grounder by
Matt Mason and a Nardo sacrifice fly, pulling them within four, but the Profs shoved right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
With two outs in the eighth,
Andrew Curran smashed a solo home run over the left centerfield fence, his second homer of the season, pulling Neumann within six. The Knights threatened in the ninth but could not knock any one across the plate.
Rakotz led Neumann going 3 for 4 with two doubles, a run batted in, and a run scored. B. Colon was 2 for 4 with a walk and an RBI.
Nick Colon was dealt the loss after pitching four innings, giving up eight runs, five earned, on nine hits.
Neumann (8-5) will return to action on Friday as they open Atlantic East Conference action against Marymount University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
