ARLINGTON, Va. – The Neumann University Baseball team dropped both ends of a conference doubleheader against Marymount University on Sunday afternoon by scores of 7-1 and 3-2.
In the first game, the action started with one out in the first when
AJ Nardo singled up the middle. He was able to move to second on a passed ball then
Andrew Curran drove him home with an RBI single for an early lead. Unfortunately for Neumann, Marymount picked up three runs in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly, an RBI single, and an RBI grounder.
In the third, the Saints pushed ahead further on the strength of a bases-clearing double down the line with the bases loaded. They grabbed their final run on an RBI single to clinch the three-game weekend series.
The second game of the day was a classic pitchers' duel as both team went scoreless until the bottom of the eighth when Marymount scored three runs on a three-run double.
Anthony Rakotz led of the top of the ninth with an infield single and moved to second on a balk. Three batters later,
Nick Glebocki single to move Rakotz to third. Nardo then doubled down the left field line to score both runners, but that's as close as the Knights would come.
Nardo finished 3 for 7 in the doubleheader with a double, two runs-batted-in, and a run scored. Rakotz was 3 for 6 with a run scored as well. Neumann got a strong start in game two from
Josh Lillis as he gave up four hits and two walks while striking out six over seven innings. He got the no-decision.
Neumann (8-8. 0-3 Atlantic East) will be back in action on Tuesday when they go out to Reading for a mid-week non-conference game against Albright College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
