ASTON, Pa. – The Neuman University Women's Lacrosse dropped a 9-8 overtime decision at the hands of non-conference opponents, Bryn Athyn University on Saturday afternoon.
Neumann got the scoring going with 7:25 left in the first when
Rex Thenor scored a player up goal.
Bekah Brosky followed with a goal of her own 45 seconds later. Bryn Athyn got on the board with eight seconds left, making it a 2-1 game after 15 minutes.
Cioni Warrington received a pass from
Lindsey Fagan 2:37 into the second and then Fagan scored after a feed from
Maggie Blemings, extending the advantage to three. Towards the end of the half, the Lions scored two goals in 27 seconds, pulling within one at the break.
Ainsley George opened the scoring in the third at the 11:54 mark but Bryn Athyn again pulled withing one just 30 seconds later. Brosky notched her second goal of the game with 2:31 left in the third. Neumann also scored the first two goals of the fourth as Fagan scored with the player up, and Warrington made it a four goal lead with 12:01 left.
From there, the Lions clawed back into the game with a goal with 10:46 left in regulation. The lead stood up until the 5:55 mark when Bryn Athyn scored three straight player up goals over an 80 second span, tying the game up. With 1:45 left in overtime, the Lions were able to seal the game and the win.
Fagan finished with two goals and an assist while both Warrington and Brosky had two goals each.
Ashley Butts was strong defensively with five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Thenor also contributed three ground balls and a four caused turnovers, to go with her goal.
Maggie Miller led with five draw controls, along with five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Catriona Corrigan was busy in goal with nine saves.
Neumann(3-3) will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit Eastern University. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
