Late Surge Powers Baseball to Victory

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Neumann University Baseball team defeated Eastern Nazarene College on Friday night by a final score of 11-2, winning four of their five Spring Break games.
 
The Lions got the game started early with an RBI triple in the first and an RBI double in the third, for a 2-0 lead. After two scoreless innings, the Knights got the bats rolling in the sixth. Brandon Colon led off with an infield hit and Joe Boccio doubled into left, moving B. Colon to third. Zion Spearman drove them both home with a double into right, tying the game. After an Andrew Curran base hit, Isaiah Payton gave Neumann the lead with an RBI single.
 
In the seventh, the Knights sent 13 men to the plate to take control of the game for good. Nick Glebocki started it by reaching on an error and then scored on an RBI triple by B. Colon. Boccio followed with an RBI single, forcing a pitching change. A Spearman single and a Curran hit by pitch loaded the bases and, two batters later, B. Colon scored on a fielder's choice. Benny Licata and Colton Shaub followed with RBI singles to keep the pressure on. After Glebocki loaded the bases again, with a base hit, Both B. Colon and Boccio were issued walks to score runs, making it a 10-2 game.
 
In the eighth, Curran led off with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch, and to third on a groundout. He then came in to score on another wild pitch, adding an exclamation point onto a successful game and spring break trip.
 
Spearman finished 2 for 5 with a double, two runs batted in, and a run scored. B. Colon was 2 for 4 with a triple, a walk, two RBI, and two runs while Boccio was 3 for 4 with a double, a walk, two RBI, and two runs. Jack Valentine picked up the win in relief, going three innings, giving up three hits and striking out one. He's 1-0.
 
Neumann(5-3) will head back north and get ready for a road game at Eastern University on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
