SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Tennis team were handed a 5-4 loss by Atlantic East Conference rival, Marywood University on Tuesday afternoon.
The Knights dropped all three doubles matches as the first doubles team of
Hannah Asaka and
Kylie Seeger kept it tight with an 8-6, as did the third doubles team of
Alura Troilo and
Kannitha Phosouvanh-Sythong.
Dari Troilo had a momentum-changing comeback win in first singles. After dropping the opening set, 6-4, she took the second and third sets, 6-4 and 7-5. In third singles,
Rachel Frederick took care of business with a dominating 6-0, 6-1 win in third singles. Seeger was also sharp in her straight sets victory in fourth singles, earning a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Sha'xaria Gordon, in fifth singles, won her match with a 7-5, 6-3 advantage.
Kayleigh DellaVecchio battled back from a 7-6 first set loss, as she fell in the tie-breaker, 7-5, to win the second set, 6-4, but ultimately came up a little short in a 6-4 third set loss.
Neumann(5-4, 0-1 Atlantic East) will return to the court on Friday when they host Kean University in the last non-conference match of the season. The action starts at 3:30 PM.
