IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Lacrosse team suffered an 18-14 loss to their Atlantic East Conference rivals, Immaculata University, on Wednesday afternoon.
Ainsley George got the Knights off to a fast start as she scored two goals in the first 2:06 fort an early lead. Although Immaculata responded shortly after, George clinched her hat-trick with just under 10 minutes left in the first quarter. The Mighty Macs were able to equalize with two goals late in the quarter for a 3-3 game.
49 seconds into the second, Immaculata took the lead, but
Cionni Warrington tied the game 70 seconds later. The Mighty Macs again took the lead as the notched four of the next five goals. George scored right in the middle of that run, but Neumann trailed by three.
Lindsey Fagan tallied two goals late in the half to make it an 8-7 deficit at the break.
The Knights came out of halftime on fire as
Maggie Miller tied the game 1:28 into the third. George, Warrington, and Fagan followed with goals of their own to conclude a 6-0 run and giving them an 11-8 lead. Immaculata scored four of the next five with Warrington grabbing the Neumann goal, and the game was even at 12 heading to the fourth.
The Mighty Macs were able to pull away early in the final quarter with a four-goal stretch before Fagan broke it up with 4:58 left. Immaculata scored twice more and then Fagan grabbed another goal with 1:06 left, but the damage was done.
Fagan led the attack with a total of five goals and an assist. George also had five goals while Warrington had three goals and an assist.
Maggie Blemings continued to feed the offense with a team-high four assists.
Lian Sydorowicz led all defenders with five ground balls while Miller secured three draw controls.
Catriona Corrigan made 12 saves in goal.
Neumann(6-8, 1-3 Atlantic East) will return to action on Saturday when they host Gwynedd Mercy University. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
