IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse team defeated Immaculata University 21-15 on Saturday afternoon in an Atlantic East Conference first round matchup.
Lindsey Fagan led the Knights with eight goals.
Maggie Blemings tallied four goals and added eight assists.
Maggie Miller scored four goals,
Cionni Warrington added three goals while
Ainsley George tallied two.
Catriona Corrigan made 12 saves in net for the win.
The Knights opened the game by scoring the first four goals. The Mighty Macs got on the board with the next three goals. Just before the end of the first quarter, Blemings found the back of the net for a 5-3 Neumann lead after the first 15 minutes.
Immaculata scored three quick goals to start the second quarter to take a 6-5 edge. Miller scored to tie the game back at six, but the Mighty Macs scored two more goals for an 8-6 lead. The Knights answered with the next five goals, three by Fagan and two by Miller, for an 11-8 score. The Mighty Macs scored the final goal of the half, 16 seconds before the horn, for an 11-9 score at halftime.
The teams traded goals throughout the third quarter and were even at 14 with 6:17 left on the clock. The Knights went on to net the next six goals for a 20-14 score. Neumann held a 17-14 heading into the fourth. Warrington capped the scoring for the Knights for the 21-16 final.
Neumann (8-9) will head to No. 1 seeded Cabrini on Wednesday for semifinal action.
