SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Lacrosse team dropped a 15-8 decision to Atlantic East Conference rivals, Marywood University on Saturday afternoon.
Marywood scored the first three goals of the game giving them an early lead. With 3:14 left in the first,
Lindsey Fagan got Neumann on the board as
Maggie Blemings got the assist. 15 seconds later, the Pacers regained the three goal edge. With 55 seconds left,
Ainsley George notched a goal but Marywood closed the quarter with a goal with 15 seconds left, for a 5-2 lead.
2:12 into the second, the Pacers picked up a player up goal, but 40 seconds later,
Maggie Miller struck with her own player up goal. At the 9:44 mark, Marywood scored twice in 11 seconds, to extend the lead to 8-3 at the half.
To start the third quarter, Neumann scored two of the first three goals as Miller and George struck. With seven minutes left in the period, the Pacers pulled away with three goals in a row.
Gia Caso picked up an unassisted goal with 22 seconds remaining but Marywood held a 12-6 lead.
The Pacers again went on a three-goal run over the first four minutes of the fourth before the Knights were able to respond.
Cionni Warrington and Miller scored player up goals in the late stages but they ran out of time.
Miller finished with a hat-trick on five shots to lead the Neumann effort, while nabbing five draw controls. George had two goals and two ground balls while Warrington had four draw controls in addition to her goal. Blemings was an assist machine, finishing with five, while scooping up three ground balls.
Catriona Corrigan finished with 13 saves in goal.
Neumann (5-6, 0-1 Atlantic East) will return to action on Monday when they visit Centenary University in another Atlantic East Conference game. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
