ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team fell to Keystone College 8-5 in the final non-conference game of the regular season Wednesday afternoon.
The Giants scored three runs in the third and four in the fourth for a 7-0 lead.
The Knights got on the board in the sixth as
Anthony Rakotz walked with one out and came around to score on an RBI single by
Zion Spearman.
In the seventh, the Knights put the first five men on base.
Colton Shaub doubled, followed by a walk by
Donovan Brooks.
Tyler Kilmer hit a double to score Shaub and Brooks.
Josh Finger walked, and Rakotz was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
After a pitching change by Keystone,
Andrew Curran hit a sacrifice fly to score Kilmer. Finger later scored on an error for a 7-5 game.
The Knights went down 1-2-3 in the eighth, The Giants added an insurance run in the eight and Neumann went down in order in the ninth and could not complete the comeback.
JerVal Shuler started the game and went 4.0 innings while striking out three in the loss.
Vic Mejia and
Jack Valentine both pitched two scoreless innings.
Gabe Colon pitched the ninth inning.
Neumann (15-21) will wrap up the regular season this weekend with the Atlantic East series with Gwynedd Mercy. The Knights will host the Griffins on Friday beginning at 3:30 PM.
