ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team won a thrilling five-set match on Friday evening in day one of the Knights Invitational.
Melissa Eddy led the Knights with 20 kills.
Julia Solomon added 16 kills while
Taylor Long notched 10.
Dani Smith handed out 49 assists and three service aces. Smith also added 21 digs.
Hannah Strohm tallied 19, Eddy 18 and
Kyla Sayson 13 digs.
DeSales took the first set 25-20. Neumann came back to take set two 25-22 and the third set 26-24. The Bulldogs rallied for a 25-20 win in set four.
The teams battled in the fifth set, with the Knights coming away with the 18-16 win to take the match 3-2.
All sets went back and forth. DeSales took the first set 25-20. Neumann took a 2-1 lead by winning the next two sets 25-22 and 26-24. The Bulldogs forced a fifth set with a 25-20 fourth set win. The Knights took the match, winning 18-16 in the final set.
In the fifth set, the Bulldogs jumped out to an early 4-1 lead. A kill by Eddy put the Knights up 8-6 as the teams switched sides. DeSales scored the next four points after the switch. The Knights took a 12-11 edge as the teams started trading points, one here and two there. Ties at 16, Neumann took advantage of two DeSales miscues and took the set 18-16 and the match 3-2.
Neumann (3-5) will face Cedar Crest at 10:00 AM tomorrow and Rowan at 2:00 PM tomorrow in day two of the Knights Invitational.
