WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team fell in a back-and-forth match, 3-2, at Wilkes University on Wednesday evening.
Melissa Eddy and
Julia Solomon each tallied 15 kills for the Knights.
Dani Smith handed out 46 assists. Eddy notched 18 digs, Smith 17 and
Hannah Strohm added 15. Strohm also had three service aces.
Set one was a battle back and forth. Holding a 20-18 edge, the Knights scored five of the next six points to take the set 25-19 on a kill by
Nayeli Cruz. Neumann took an early 8-1 lead in set two. Wilkes worked its way back and took a 12-11 advantage. The teams kept going back and forth, but the Colonels came away with the 25-22 win to tie the match at one.
Set three went to the Knights, 25-18, capped on two kills by Eddy. The fourth continued to go back and forth. A kill by Cruz put Neumann up 23-22. Wilkes answered with the next three points to take the set 25-23 and force the fifth set.
The Knights took a 12-11 edge in the fifth set. The Colonels scored the next three points for match point, 14-12. Two Wilkes errors tied the set at 14. A Colonels kill and Knights error gave Wilkes the 16-14 set five and 3-2 match win.
Neumann (5-9) will host Rutgers-Camden and Arcadia on Saturday in a tri-match. Action gets underway at 11:00 AM.
