Women’s Volleyball Goes 1-1 in Tri-Match

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team went 1-1 in a home tri-match on Saturday. The Knights defeated Rutgers University – Camden 3-2 before falling to Arcadia University 3-1.
 
Julia Solomon led the Knights against the Scarlet Raptors with 18 kills. Melissa Eddy tallied 16 and Nayeli Cruz added 11. Dani Smith handed out 55 assists. Hannah Strohm notched 26 digs while Eddy and Smith each added 23. Bri Gautier finished with 12 digs.
 
After Neumann scored the first three points of the match, Rutgers-Camden came back with the next nine. The Knights took a 13-12 edge on a kill by Eddy. Down 23-21, Neumann tallied the next four, including a kill by Cruz and sealed with a service ace by Emma Dobberstein, for the 25-23 win.
 
The teams were knotted at 23 late in the second set before the Scarlet Raptors were able to score the final two points for a 25-23 win and tie the match at one. Set three took extra points before Rutgers-Camden could pull ahead by two, taking the set 28-26.
 
The Knights built a 15-7 lead to open set three. Leading 22-17, Neumann scored the final three points to force the fifth set.
 
Set five was much like the rest of the match. Tied at 13, two kills by Solomon sealed the 15-13 and 3-2 win for Neumann.
 
Solomon led Neumann against Arcadia as well, finishing with 16 kills. Eddy added 10. Smith dished out 34 assists. Strohm (16), Smith (15) and Eddy (14) all had double-digit digs.
 
Down 8-7, the Knights scored seven straight points to take a 14-8 advantage. At set point, 24-15, Arcadia scored seven consecutive points, but Eddy sealed the 25-22 set one win with a kill.
 
Arcadia used a few runs in the second and third sets to win 25-11 and 25-18. With Arcadia leading 15-6 in set four, Neumann scored eight of the next nine points to pull within two, 16-14. The Knights got to within one, 23-22, but Arcadia finished off the match with two kills.
 
Neumann (6-10) will host Muhlenberg on Tuesday evening for non-conference action beginning at 7:00 PM.
