ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Basketball team defeated the Centenary University Cyclones in an Atlantic East Conference game on Wednesday night by a final score of 85-57.
Neumann got off to a strong start as they led by three after the first three minutes. Over the next 57 seconds, the Knights went on a 7-0 run, capped by a
DJ Earl three-pointer, and that put them up 15-5. They traded baskets over the next few minutes until Neumann went on another run, this time of five, for a 22-9 lead with 12:39 left in the first. The Knights went on another big push with 5:34 remaining. Leading by 14, they went on an 11-3 run over the next 3:28 to pull away by 19. The Cyclones' best run of the half was only four points as Neumann led 45-28 at the intermission.
Although Centenary scored the first basket of the second half, Neumann again extended their advantage with a 12-6 run, making it a 21-point lead, five minutes into the period. At the midway point of the half, scored five points straight for a 69-45 lead. Neumann closed the game with a 9-2 run as the Knights sealed the win.
Earl led the attack with 26 points as
Mike Smith, III followed with 14.
TJ Lewis and
Donte Dupriest each had 12 points with Dupriest adding 10 rebounds for his fourth consecutive double-double performance. Lewis was a hound defensively with a team-high four steals.
Neumann (12-4, 3-0 Atlantic East) will try to keep the streak alive as they visit Pratt Institute for their first ever meeting. Tip-off on Saturday in Brooklyn, N.Y., is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
