IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Basketball team defeated Immaculata University in an Atlantic East Conference match-up on Wednesday night by a final score of 79-70.
Neumann got off to a bit of a slow start as they fell behind 7-3 after three and a half minutes of play. They then went on a six-point run to take their first lead of the game at 9-7. The Mighty Macs retook the lead but again that drew a response of six points, putting the Knights up by five. With 10:36 left in the half, Immaculata went on a 14-4 run over the next five minutes for a five-point lead, which would hold until the intermission.
To start the second half, and after an early Neumann free throw, Immaculata went on a 9-3 stretch to push their lead to ten just two minutes in. After trading baskets for the next few minutes, the Mighty Macs extended their advantage to their largest in the game at 12. Over the next 2:44, the Knights hit eight free throws as part of an 11-2 run to pull to within three. With 10:24 remaining in regulation, the Knights went off on a massive 18-4 push, closed by a
Bryan Etienne dunk to give Neumann a nine-point lead, one that they wouldn't relinquish.
TJ Lewis led the Neumann attack with 27 points, tying his career high.
Mike Smith, III had his highest output as a Knight with a 20-point performance.
Donte Dupriest had a huge game on the boards on his way to a double-double, picking up 18 rebounds to go with 11 points. 10 of those rebounds came on the offensive glass. In total, Neumann outrebounded Immaculata, 48-22.
Neumann (11-4, 2-0 Atlantic East) will look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday, January 15
th when they host Centenary University for 6:00 PM start.
