ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Field Hockey team earned an important Atlantic East Conference win on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Manhattanville University by a final score of 3-1.
Gabriella Cappelli led the offense with a goal and an assist on eight shots, five on goal.
Meghan Sheldrick and
Cadence Conti each took three shots with two on goal while
Natalie Zoffer came off the bench and placed all three of her shots on goal.
Although Neumann was dominant in possession, it was Manhattanville who grabbed the lead in the 13
th minute on a rebound. Early in the second quarter, Cappelli slapped a pass inside the circle to
Ayla Mergen who rattled a shot off the post and in for her sixth of the season, tying the game. With 3:22 left in the half, Sheldrick received a pass from
Natalie Hackett and slipped it home for her third of the year, and a 2-1 Knights lead.
After a scoreless third quarter, Neumann notched an important insurance marker in the 53
rd minute. After a corner, both Conti and
Natalia Thomas had shots saved but Cappelli was able to finish for her sixth of the season, and a two-goal edge.
Neumann (7-5, 1-0 Atlantic East) will return to action nest Saturday when they visit Marywood University for a 12:00 PM start.
