ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team tallied two wins in a tri-match on Saturday. The Knights defeated Pratt Institute 3-0 in Atlantic East action. Neumann then battled to a 3-2 win over Rutgers-Camden.
The Knights opened the day with a 3-0 sweep over the Cannoneers. Set scores were 25-12, 25-9 and 25-10.
Taylor Long led the team with 10 kills on 21 chances, no errors, and a .476 hitting percentage.
Julia Solomon added nine kills and hit .313 while
Bri Gautier tallied eight kills and 10 digs.
Kyla Carney handed out 27 assists and notched 11 digs.
Hannah Strohm finished with five service aces and eight digs.
Neumann held the pace in all sets. In set one, the Knights opened with a 10-2 lead and took the set on a kill by
Soleil-La'Jour Staggs. Neumann went up 12-2 to open set two. A kill by Solomon wrapped up the set two win.
Set three opened a little different with the teams going back and forth before the Knights built a 10-5 edge. A kill by Long sealed the set and match win.
In the second match of the day, the Knights and Scarlet Raptors battled to a 3-2 Neumann win.
Melissa Eddy posted 22 kills and 18 digs for the Knights. Carney dished out 42 assists while adding 19 digs. Strohm anchored the defense, collecting 31 digs and delivering three service aces. Solomon added 15 kills. Gautier added 12 digs.
In set one, Rutgers-Camden seized control with a series of points, capitalizing on Neumann's errors to move ahead, eventually extending the lead to 11-6. Despite the Knights' efforts, including another kill from Eddy, the home team struggled to close the gap. Rutgers-Camden maintained its advantage through consistent play, concluding the set with a 25-17 win over Neumann.
In the second set, Neumann capitalized on key moments to shift momentum and secure the set. Eddy and Solomon delivered critical kills to keep the Knights competitive, while a service ace from Strohm initiated a 4-0 run, allowing Neumann to pull ahead 13-11. Rutgers-Camden scored the next five points, but the Knights answered with the next four for a 17-16 edge, highlighted by another ace from Solomon. With the match tied at 23, Solomon tallied two straight kills for the 25-23 win and tie the match at one.
The Scarlet Raptors built a 15-10 lead in the third set and kept the pressure on for the 25-16 set three win.
Neumann began the fourth set with momentum and built a 7-2 lead. Rutgers-Camden rallied back and took a 16-13 advantage. The Knights answered with the next four points to take back the lead. Each team took mini-rallies and were knotted at 22. Two kills by Eddy put Neumann at set point. After a Scarlet Raptors kill, Eddy forced the fifth set with another kill and the 25-23 set four win.
Down 10-4 in the deciding set, the Knights tallied eight straight points with six kills by Eddy and key service by Gautier for a 12-10 edge. Rutgers-Camden answered with four of the next five points for a 14-13 advantage. A Scarlet Raptor error tied the set at 14 and kills by Solomon and Eddy sealed the 16-14 set and 3-2 match win.
Neumann (8-9, 1-1 Atlantic East) heads to Albright on Thursday for a non-conference match beginning at 7:00 PM.
