ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann women's tennis team tallied its first win of the fall season, defeating Penn State Abington 6-1 on Thursday afternoon.
Neumann opened the match with the duo of
Alura Troilo and
Sha'xaria Gordon taking first doubles, 6-0. The Knights won the doubles point with a Lions forfeit at third doubles.
In singles action, Troilo (first) and Gordon (second), each won by 6-2, 6-0 scores.
Kayleigh DellaVecchio battled at third doubles, falling 6-1 in the first set, winning 6-4 in set two, but falling 10-7 in the tie-breaker.
Juliet Schilling won fourth singles 6-3, 6-3. Lyndsie Crawford battled fifth singles, taking the first set 6-2, then falling 6-4 before taking the set 6-1.
"This match was a hard mental and physical battle," says junior Schilling. "Everyone on the team fought hard and gave everything they had, and it paid off with the teams first win of the fall season."
Neumann (1-1) travels to Cairn for the first away match of the season next Tuesday. Action is slated to begin at 3:30 PM.
