SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team defeated Marywood University in five-sets on Wednesday evening in Atlantic East Conference action.
Julia Solomon led the Knights with 15 kills and four service aces.
Melissa Eddy tallied 13 kills and
Taylor Long added 10 kills and a .333 hitting percentage.
Kyla Carney handed out 41 assists and 22 digs.
Hannah Strohm finished with 30 digs.
Neumann opened the match by taking the first two sets. Down 14-12 in set one, the Knights scored six straight points for an 18-14 advantage. Leading 23-19, Neumann got kills by Eddy and
Kera Kennedy for the 25-19 set one win.
The Knights jumped out to an 8-3 lead in set two and built a 17-9 advantage. With Neumann leading 21-13, Marywood found a groove and rallied to tie the set at 23. A Pacer service error and a kill by Solomon gave the Knights the 25-23 set two win.
The Pacers built an 18-9 lead in set three. The Knights managed a few small runs, but Marywood extended the match with a 25-18 win. Set four was much like set three with the Pacers building their lead early and come away with a 25-17 win to force a fifth set.
The Knights worked a 14-9 lead in the final set, but the Pacers were not going quietly and scored five straight points to tie the score at 14. Long broke Marywood's run with a kill. The Pacers scored the next two points for a 16-15 edge. Solomon tallied a kill to knot the score at 16. After a Pacer's error, Solomon sealed the 18-16 set and 3-2 match win with a service ace.
Neumann (12-12, 3-1 Atlantic East) continues conference action on Saturday as it travels to Centenary University. The Atlantic East match gets underway at 1:00 PM.
