GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team emerged victorious in a five-set thriller at Arcadia University on Friday night.
Julia Solomon led the Knights with 20 kills and a .529 hitting percentage.
Melissa Eddy contributed 12 kills and 15 digs.
Hannah Strohm demonstrated strong defensive skills, recording 19 digs.
Kyla Carney handed out 27 assists and added 11 digs.
Liv Bowers dished out 16 assists.
The first set was a battle back and forth. Down 21-19, Neumann scored five straight points including two kills from Solomon and two kills from
Taylor Long, for a 24-21 edge. Arcadia answered with the next three points to draw even at 24. Neumann took set one as Solomon and
Bri Gautier block for the 26-24 final.
Arcadia used an 11-1 run in the middle of set two to take the set 25-12 and tie the match at one. Set three was much like the first set. Tied late, a kill by Solomon put Neumann up 23-22. Arcadia tallied the next two points, but another kill by Solomon drew the set even again. An Arcadia attack error and a kill by Gauiter gave Neumann the 26-24 set three win.
Arcadia built a 17-13 lead in set four. Neumann rattled off the next five points to take an 18-17 edge. Tied late at 23, Arcadia was able to come away with the 25-23 win and force a fifth set.
The teams went back and forth in the deciding set and were tied at seven before the point to flip the court. Neumann scored three straight points and took a 10-7 advantage on a kill by Eddy. Arcadia answered with the next five points for a 12-10 lead. Neumann closed out the set with a run of five consecutive points. Key plays included a block by Long and
Austin Raymer, and a kill by Raymer to put the Knights at match point before they secured the 15-12 win.
Neumann (6-9) returns home next Saturday and will host a tri-match with conference foe Pratt Institute and Rutgers-Camden.
