ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team opened the 2025-2026 on the wrong side of a 4-1 decision against Nazareth University on Friday night.
The Golden Flyers got out of the gate quickly, scoring just 1:15 into the game. Less than two minutes later, they struck again on a rebound goal for a 2-0 lead. Neumann settled down on got some chances of their own but with 10:39 left in the first period, Nazareth scored after a giveaway, forcing a Knights timeout.
In the second period, Neumann turned the game around in every way but the scoreboard. They outshot the Golden Flyers by a 14-9 margin and won the majority of faceoffs, but still couldn't quite notch a goal.
With the Knights pushing for more offense, Nazareth made it 4-0 at the 14:15 mark of the third. In the last minute of the game, while on the power play,
Lucas Culhane dumped the puck in.
Niko Tishkevich found it behind the net and centered to
Jared Coccimiglio who deposited it for his first collegiate goal.
Max Donohoe led the offensive effort with five shots on goal. Both Coccimiglio and
Matt Dimaline had three shots each.
Tyler Kennedy,
TJ Ezzard, and
Judd Katz blocked two shots each and
Cole DeFazio made 27 saves.
Neumann (0-1) will look to get into the win column on Saturday afternoon when they host SUNY Brockport in another non-conference game. The opening face-off from the IceWorks Skating Complex is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
