SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Basketball team dropped a 99-74 decision against Swarthmore College in a non-conference game on Wednesday evening.
The game started off back-and-forth for the first five minutes before Swarthmore scored two straight three-pointers to take a 13-8 lead. The Garnet maintained the five point edge before going on a 9-2 run over 2:14 to take a 30-18 lead with 9:21 left in the half. From the 7:33 mark, the Knights went on a bit of a cold spell, as they didn't hit a field goal for over five minutes. That allowed Swarthmore to extend the lead to 15, although Neumann did hit their free throws. With 2:20 remaining in the half,
Bryan Etienne picked up a traditional three-point play to end the run. At the break, the Garnet led 48-35.
Swarthmore got off to a fast start in the second half as they scored the first 10 points to extend their lead to 23, with 17:30 left in regulation. The Garnet went on a three-point frenzy as their next five field goals came from beyond the arc and they extended the lead to 75-42 with 13:14 remaining. Neumann started to push back as they scored seven of the next ten points to force a Swarthmore timeout, At the 5:23 mark, and Swarthmore up 88-56, Neumann went on a 9-0 run with
Srdan Vujanovic scoring seven of those points, but the Knights ran out of time for any further comeback.
Donte Dupriest led the effort with 14 points with
Izaiah Johnson Young-El adding 12. Both Etienne and
DJ Earl picked up 10 points each, and Earl added a team-high four assists, as six rebounds.
Miles Johnson led on the boards with seven rebounds, three offensive.
Neumann (1-3) will be back in action on Friday night for their home-opener as they host Goucher College in a non-conference game. The opening tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
