ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team shut out King's College in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) game on Friday night by a final score of 4-0.
The Knights got out of the gate quickly as
Lucas Culhane poked in his third goal of the season, just 17 seconds into the game.
Niko Tishkevich got the assist for the early 1-0 lead. Neumann continued to control the play, outshooting the Monarchs by a 14-2 pace through 20 minutes, but the score remained the same.
At the 3:27 mark of the second period, the Knights were stymied while on the power play but used the momentum to double the lead. Culhane ripped a pass across the slot to
Max Donohoe who settled the pass and wristed in his fourth of the year. Later in the period,
Sonny DiNubile stole the puck and moved in on a 3-on-1. Using his teammates as a decoy, he moved in and beat the goalie for his second goal of the season, giving Neumann a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes.
With 15:26 left in the third period, a strong forecheck turned into a turnover for
Tyler Kennedy. After grabbing the puck at the point, he passed over to
Jared Coccimiglio. Coccimiglio took a couple of strides towards to net and powered in his third goal of the season.
Donohoe led with eight shots on goal, followed by six by Coccimiglio, and four each from
Zack Smith and Culhane.
Jake Barkley was dominant in the faceoff circle, winning 12 of the 17 draws he took.
Christian Green was again perfect in goal with 13 saves for his third shutout in as many games.
Neumann (5-2, 5-0 MAC) will return to action on Saturday night when they again host King's College. The opening face-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
