ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team earned two points in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) standings as they tied King's College, 4-4, before winning the shootout, 2-1.
Jared Coccimiglio led with a goal and two assists.
Lucas Culhane had a goal and an assist, leading in shots with seven while
Matt Dimaline had two assists.
Niko Tishkevich had six shots and
Jared Coccimiglio and
Dustin Patterson had five each.
Jake Barkley was strong in faceoffs, winning 14 of 19.
Christian Green earned his fourth win with 26 saves.
Neumann got on the board first when, on the power play,
Jake Barkley wristed the puck towards goal.
Zack Smith deflected it to Patterson who swept in his second goal of the season with 10:29 left in the first. At the 12:57 mark, the Monarchs were awarded a penalty shot but Green made the stop. The Knights took a two-goal lead with 2:29 left when Tishkevich received a drop pass from Dimaline and wristed in his fourth of the year. Coccimiglio earned the secondary assist. King's responded quickly with a goal just 18 seconds later, making it a 2-1 game.
Close to the midway point of the second, the Knights regained their two-goal edge with another power play goal. Culhane and Dimaline worked the puck to Coccimiglio and slapped in a one-timer for his fourth goal of the year. 2:01 later, King's again pulled within one. They equalized at the 16:17 mark and took the lead with 31 seconds left in the second on a power play goal.
With 12:17 left in the third period, the Knights found the tying goal. Culhane followed his own rebound and scored his fourth goal of the year.
Sonny DiNubile and Coccimiglio earned the assists.
Both teams had opportunities in overtime, but neither could find the game-winner. In the shootout, both teams were scoreless after two rounds but both teams put up a goal in the third to extend it. After a scoreless fourth, King's missed in the fifth and
Akezhan Melis ripped a shot through the goalie's legs to win it and grabbed the second point in the standings.
Neumann (5-2-1, 5-0-1 MAC) will return to the ice on Tuesday when they host Elmira in a non-conference game. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
