ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Basketball team defeated Penn State Abington in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 87-77.
Donte Dupriest led the Knights attack with Neumann career-high 34 points. He added 20 rebounds, nine on the offensive glass for a double-double.
Bryan Etienne also had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
DJ Earl added 25 points and
Julian Phillips had 10.
At the 8:31 mark, and the Nittany Lions carrying a 19-16 lead, the Knights went on the first significant run of the game. Over the next 2:24, they scored nine straight points for a 25-19 lead. Again, neither team could put together a strong stretch and Neumann led 33-28 at the break.
Penn State Abington put together a hot start to the second half as they put up 14 of the first 20 points over 4:26 to grab the lead at 42-39. The Knights responded with a 9-2 run over the next few minutes, but the Nittany Lions scored five straight, tying the game at 48 with 11:39 left. In the next 1:52, Neumann took the lead for good with a 10-2 run. Penn State Abington got within five but over the next three minutes, the Knights extended the lead to 74-59 with a 12-2 push. The Nittany Lions outscored Neumann the rest of the way by five but could not overtake them.
Neumann (4-3) will be back in action on Tuesday night for another non-conference match-up. The Knights will host Muhlenberg College starting at 6:00 PM.
