ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team came back late to defeat Muhlenberg 71-61 on Tuesday evening.
Donte Dupriest led the Knights with another double-double: 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Bryan Etienne and
DJ Earl each dropped 18 points.
Izaiah Johnson Young-El grabbed 12 boards.
The teams opened the game going back and forth. With Neumann holding a 9-7 edge, the Knights went on a 10-2 run to take a 19-9 advantage. The Mules answered with a 14-2 run to take a 23-21 lead. A layup by Dupriest tied the game at 23 with 6:55 on the clock. Muhlenberg continued its run to halftime and held a 43-19 lead at the break.
The Mules opened the second half with a three-pointer for a 17-point lead. The Knights netted the next nine points to cut into the deficit. Midway through the half, Muhlenberg held a 10-poin advantage, 53-43. Neumann again scored nine straight points to pull within one, 53-52, with 8:37 on the clock. A layup by Dupriest with 5:34 left in regulation put the Knights in the lead, 58-57. The Mules answered with a three-pointer to take the lead back.
Two free throws by Etienne tied the game at 60 with just under four minutes left on the clock. A Dupriest layup put the Knights in the lead as Neumann outscored Muhlenberg 13-1 over the final four minutes for the come-from-behind 71-61 win.
Neumann (5-3) will host Penn State Schuylkill on Monday for non-conference action beginning at 7:00 PM.
