ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey took down non-conference opponents, Elmira College on Tuesday night by a final score of 4-3.
Just over five minutes into the game, Neumann struck for the game's first goal. The Knights were on a five-on-three power play when
Max Donohoe wristed in his fifth goal of the year.
Jake Barkley and
Sonny DiNubile earned assists for the 1-0 lead. 47 seconds later,
Lucas Culhane struck with a 4-on-4 goal for his fifth of the year after a pass from
Tyler Kennedy, doubling Neumann's advantage.
Elmira turned things around in the second period when they pulled within one, just 1:48 in. They tied the game on a power play goal with 6:54 remaining. 1:24 later, the Knights regained the lead when
Judd Katz received a pass from Barkley and blasted in his first goal of the season. With 50 seconds left in the period,
Tyler Ray slipped in a sharp angle shot for his second of the year.
Akezhan Melis earned the assist as the Knights reacquired the two-goal lead.
Early in the third, with the Soaring Eagles shorthanded due to a five-minute major, they pulled within one with 17:48 left in regulation. Elmira continued to push for the equalizer but Neumann found a way to hang on for the win.
Donohoe led with a goal and an assist. Barkley also had a two-point game, both assists.
Jared Coccimiglio had four shots on goal.
Cole DeFazio made 29 saves in goal for the win.
Neumann (6-2-1) will be back in action on Friday, December 5
th, when they visit Alvernia University for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) match-up starting at 7:00 PM.
