READING, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team defeated Alvernia University in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) game on Friday night by a final score of 2-1.
Alvernia got on the board first with 14:09 left in the opening period on a breakaway for a 1-0 lead. The Knights were outshot in the first 20 minutes by a 14-9 clip, but the deficit held at one.
At the 12:08 mark of the second,
Ben Gibbons moved in on a breakaway and deposited his second goal of the season to tie the game at one. Neumann finally took the lead with 2:21 left in regulation when
Lucas Culhane whipped a pass the crease to
Niko Tishkevich. He deflected it in for his fifth goal of the year to grab the game.
Shawn Eliav led the way with six shots on goal.
Jared Coccimiglio,
Zack Smith,
Max Donohoe, and
Jake Barkley each put three shots on goal.
Christian Green made 39 saves to secure the Knights' seventh win in their last eight games.
Neumann (7-2-1, 6-0-1 MAC) will challenge Alvernia again on Saturday evening from Body Zone in Reading, Pa. for a 4:00 PM start.
