ASTON, Pa. – For many athletes, field hockey is more than just a sport – it's a shared language of teamwork, competition, and growth. For a few special players, it's also the foundation of a bond that goes far beyond the field. Sisters who play together share something few others can understand: the rhythm of each other's movements, the comfort of a familiar voice during a game, and the pride that comes from seeing someone you love succeed.
Hope and Shannon Roberts know that feeling well. Growing up, they were inseparable teammates, but college separated them for a while, Hope says, "(it) felt like something was missing." When they were finally reunited on the same team, the connection they shared reignited instantly. Playing side by side again reminded them that their bond was stronger than distance or time apart. For Shannon, watching her sister grow into a confident, determined athlete has been one of her greatest joys, and for Hope, Shannon's resilience continues to be her biggest inspiration. Their teammates notice that energy too, often pointing out how the twins' natural communication and support lift the entire team.
That same dynamic carries through to Caley and Erin Gee, whose competitiveness pushes them to be better every single day. As a forward and a goalie, their friendly rivalry is built into the game itself—one aiming to score, the other determined to block. Yet beneath that competition is deep admiration. Caley loves watching Erin's leadership shine, while Erin describes Caley as her biggest supporter and toughest challenger. Their rivalry isn't just about winning, it's about growth, respect, and love. Even as Caley prepares to transfer schools, both sisters know that no distance can weaken the connection they've built through years of playing together. Their teammates see that bond too, finding motivation in how the Gee sisters' mix of competition and care brings energy and unity to every practice.
The same spirit lives in Molly and Casey McGee, whose bond has been strengthened by every pass, goal, and challenge they've faced together. Growing up in a big family, field hockey gave them a space where their connection could shine. Playing on the same team at Neumann University became something they never took for granted, especially after losing the chance to share Molly's senior year of high school on the field. Now, each game they play together feels like a gift. Molly finds inspiration in Casey's selflessness and leadership, while Casey looks up to Molly's resilience and positivity. Together, they've built more than just a strong duo, they've become an example of how trust, teamwork, and love can shape an entire team's spirit.
The bonds these sisters share don't just strengthen their relationships; they strengthen the entire team. Their chemistry sets the tone for how teammates communicate, support, and care for one another. Watching sisters challenge and uplift each other reminds everyone that success isn't just about individual talent, but about trust and unity. Their shared energy turns practices into family gatherings and games into shared milestones, where every goal and save feels personal. Through their example, the team has grown closer, forming a family built not only on field hockey but on genuine connection—a reminder that when players care for one another like sisters, the whole team rises together.
Head Coach Dana Ott shared that the Roberts, McGee, and Gee sisters have been instrumental in shaping the heart of the team. Ott says, "Having three sets of sisters brings complete fun! They've created such an authentic culture of accountability, unwavering love and support, and joy that shines through everything we do."
Ott also goes on to mention the "competitive banter that takes place on the field to the contagious giggles on the sidelines," the sisters have helped build a culture that embodies both family and fun—something Ott says makes this team truly special.
Across all these stories, one message remains constant: sisterhood is powerful. Whether through competition or collaboration, laughter or long practices, these sisters show how field hockey builds more than athletes—it builds character, unity, and lifelong connection. Their relationships prove that victories fade, but the memories, lessons, and bonds created through the game last forever. Field hockey, for them, is not only a sport; it's a shared heartbeat that keeps them connected, moving together on and off the field.
