REISTERSTOWN, Md. – The Neumann University Women's Hockey team dropped a 3-2 overtime decision against their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) rivals on Monday afternoon.
After a scoreless first period, it was
Gia Santorello who grabbed the puck in her own zone and went coast-to-coast for her seventh goal of the season just two minutes into the seconds.
Lian Sydorowicz and
Noelle Woodard notched the assists as the Knights took a 1-0 lead. For Woodard, that was the first point in her collegiate career. At the 7:57 mark, and just after a Stevenson power play expired, they knocked one in to tie the game. With 4:48 left in the period, the Mustangs were able to take the lead on a power play goal.
Four minutes into the third period, Neumann went on the power play and took full advantage of it. After they won the faceoff,
Kaylynn Savoy passed across the point to Santorello, who nudged the puck to
Charlotte Labre in the slot. While falling, she lifted in her sixth goal of the season to tie the game at two. The game ended up in overtime where Stevenson were able to clinch the game with a power play marker.
Santorello led the Knights offensively with a two-point game and seven shots on goal. Labre and Savoy finished up with three shots each. Labre was also strong in the faceoff dot, winning seven of the nine draws she took. Woodard made 28 saves in goal.
Neumann (4-14-3, 3-12-3) will hit the ice again on Friday night when they visit Lebanon Valley College. Puck drop from Hersheypark Arena in Hershey, Pa. is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
