ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team defeated Stevenson University in a Tuesday matinee game, downing their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) rivals by a final score of 6-2.
The scoring started at the 10:34 mark of the first period when Stevenson got on the board. 100 seconds later,
Abram Snider took a wrist shot from the left side point and snuck in the first goal of his collegiate career.
Tyler Inlow had the lone assist as the Knights tied the game at one.
Just 1:02 into the second,
PJ Demitrio had the puck in the corner and feathered a pass to
Matt Dimaline at the top of the circle. He rifled in a wrist shot to give Neumann the lead. Stevenson tied the game with 7:41 left in the period but the Knights retook the lead in quick order. 19 seconds later, an offensive faceoff was worked to the point and
Cameron Hatziioannou. His shot from distance was saved but
Lucas Culhane deposited in his ninth goal of the season for a 3-2 lead. Four minutes later, the Knights doubled their advantage. After a Culhane shot was blocked, it fell right to
Luke Croucher who snapped in his fourth goal of the season, sending Neumann to the third with a two-goal lead.
The Knights added two insurance markers in the final period to seal with game. With 12:46 left, and both teams playing short a man, Neumann moved in on a 3-on-1. After a brilliant passing play, Dimaline notched his second goal of the game. Hatziioannou and Culhane grabbed assists as they took a 5-2 lead. 35 seconds later, Dimaline completed the hat-trick as he deflected in his ninth goal of the year.
Max Donohoe and Hatziioannou picked up assist as Neumann cruised from there.
In addition to Dimaline's hat-trick, he led the Knights with five shots on goal. Culhane finished with a three point game, grabbing a goal and two assists. Hatziioannou also had a three point afternoon, all assists.
Cole DeFazio had several highlight reel moments among his 30 saves between the pipes.
Neumann (13-6-2, 10-5-2 MAC) will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Misericordia for a 7:00 PM puck drop.
