WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team won their fourth game in a row as they defeated Misericordia University in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) game on Saturday night by a final score of 7-1.
Zack Smith and
Max Donohoe each had two goal games while
Matt Dimaline had a goal and two assists.
Luke Croucher had a big game in the faceoff circle as he won 16 of his 21 draws.
Matt Perdue got the call in goal and he snagged 22 saves for the win.
Neumann took a 1-0 lead with 8:25 left in the first period thanks to a Smith deflection of a Dimaline shot.
Cameron Hatziioannou earned the secondary assist. 2:08 later,
Dexton Mozell found a rebound after a
TJ Ezzard shot for his third of the year, doubling the Knights' lead. Misericordia scored on the power play less than a minute later, but Neumann regained the two-goal edge with 2:32 left in the first. Donohoe notched the goal as
Lucas Culhane and
Tyson Rohrer notched assists, making it 3-1 going into the first intermission.
The Knights added an unassisted power play goal from Dimaline for his 10
th of the season, then
PJ Demitrio notched his sixth, from assists by Dimaline and
Judd Katz, for a 5-1 lead for two. Smith opened the scoring in the third just 1:27 in as he earned his 14
th of the year then Donohoe closed the game with his eighth as Demitro got the assist.
With tonight's win, Neumann (14-6-2, 11-5-2) guarantees a spot in the MAC Tournament playoffs. It's their first playoff berth since the 2021-2022 season. The Knights will return to the ice on Tuesday afternoon as they host Misericordia to complete the suspended game from January 25
th. The resumption will commence at 2:00 PM.
