ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Marymount University 81-84 on Tuesday evening in an Atlantic East Conference contest.
DJ Earl led the Knights with 23 points.
Donte Dupriest netted 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Bryan Etienne scored 17 points off the bench.
TJ Lewis added 11 points.
The Knights built a double-digit lead midway through the first half. With the score 25-14, the Saints started to chip back into the deficit and tied the game at 37 in the final minute of the half. Earl scored the last basket of the half for a 39-37 Neumann lead at the break.
Neumann opened the second half with a 12-2 run to take a 51-39 lead. A three-pointer midway through the half brought Marymount to within three, 62-59. The Knights held a lead between three and seven points over the final 10 minutes.
A Saints jumper with 1:21 on the clock made it an 84-79 game.
Mike Smith, III went 2-for-2 from the line, as did Earl 15 seconds later, for an 88-79 game in the final minute. Marymount hit its baskets in the final minutes, but Neumann made the key free throws for the 81-84 win.
Neumann (18-6, 9-2 Atlantic East) will travel to Gwynedd Mercy to wrap up the regular season on Friday evening. Action is scheduled to get underway at 8:00 PM after the women's game.
