ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Hockey team, in the resumption of a suspended game, blanked Misericordia University in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play by a final score of 5-0.
Neumann had five different goal scorers, led by
Judd Katz's one goal and one assist performance.
Lucas Culhane ended up with three assists while
PJ Demitrio had two.
Cole DeFazio finished with 23 save on the way to his first career shutout.
The game started on January 25
th and at the 12:23 mark, Katz scored his third goal of the season on the power play.
Tyler Inlow and Demitrio earned helpers to make it 1-0. The Knights doubled their advantage when
Cameron Hatziioannou found a loose puck in the slot and slid home his first of the year with .8 seconds showing on the clock. Demitrio and Culhane earned assists as they took a two-goal lead into the first intermission.
Neumann continued to attack in the early stages of the second when
Dustin Patterson nailed his third goal of the season. Culhane nabbed the lone assist that came just 23 seconds into the period. With 10:46 left in the period, a Misericordia player was seriously injured, and the decision was made to suspend the game.
With today's resumption came a five-minute major for the Cougars but they could not take advantage of it. With the Knights pressuring in the last minute of the period,
Zack Smith whipped the puck into net with .1 seconds left on the clock for his team-leading 14 goal of the season.
Matt Dimaline and Katz earned assists as they led 4-0 after 40 minutes.
Misericordia was held at bay for the rest of the afternoon as Neumann popped home one more goal to secure the three points in the standings.
Luke Croucher found a loose puck and whistled in his fifth of the year with 1:35 left in regulation.
Max Donohoe and Culhane picked up assists as the Knights closed out the day.
Neumann (15-6-2, 12-5-2 MAC) will return to the ice on Friday night when they host King's College in the penultimate game of the regular season. The opening face-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
