ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Volleyball team swept the University of Valley Forge in non-conference action on Thursday night by a final score of 3-0.
The Knights were led offensively by
Trey Edmonds' 12 kills and three service aces.
Veryl Burns had nine kills and both
Victor John and
Mason Fleisher had six kills each. John added two block solos and a block assist.
Noah Banaag was the key passer with 30 assists and
Christian DeMarco led with seven digs.
The match started with a dominant start for Neumann as they took a 6-2 lead. Valley Forge pulled within one but a 7-1 run allowed the Knights to pull ahead, 13-6. Both teams traded points until 20-14 but Neumann scored the last five points to win the set by 11.
The Knights again started strong with another 6-2 lead in the second. The Patriots got back even with a 5-1 run as they battled to avoid going down two sets to none. Even at eight, Neumann went on a 4-0 run but Valley Forge scored three straight. The Knights pulled ahead for good with a 4-1 push to make it 16-12. The Patriots were able to get within one at 18-17 but never got any closer as the set ended 25-21.
The third set was a different story as neither team took more than a one point lead until Neumann led 6-4. Valley Forge took the lead on the strength of a 5-2 run, then both teams traded three-point runs. With the set at 14-13 in favor of the Patriots, the Knights answered with four in a row. Although they stayed closed, Valley Forge was unable to force a fourth set. Neumann scored four of the last five points to seal the match with a 25-21 final set.
Neumann (5-5) will be back in action on Friday night as they visit Cairn University for a non-conference match. It is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
