ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season, and the first of the
Jackie Neary era, with a 19-5 final over Delaware Valley University on Tuesday afternoon.
Alena Catka rattled off six goals, three assists and 14 draw controls in the win.
Lindsey Fagan notched four goals and four assists.
Krista Geibler tallied a hat trick.
Neve Murphy handed out a pair of goals and assists.
Abbey Fenton started the game in net and made two saves in 40+ minutes for the win.
Sarah Kiraly made her Knights debut, playing 12+ minutes.
Kortney Kaelin finished the game in net.
The Knights jumped out quickly and scored nine goals in the first quarter. Fagan scored the first goal with 12:46 on the clock. Catka added to the lead just 10 seconds later. Catka ended up scoring four goals in the first quarter while Fagan and Geibler each added two and
Cionni Warrington one to wrap up the first 15 minutes.
Fagan opened the second quarter with two more goals and the running clock started.
Kenna Sanders scored her first collegiate goal, off an assist from
Maggie Miller, to wrap up the Neumann first half scoring. The Aggies scored a goal just before halftime and the Knights took a 13-1 advantage at the break.
Late in the fourth quarter,
Ainsley George and
Rex Thenor each scored their first goals of the season for the 19-5 final.
Neumann (1-1) starts its three-game road swing on Saturday at Juniata. Action is slated to get underway at 12:00 PM.
