HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Lacrosse team suffered a 15-9 non-conference setback against Juniata College on Saturday afternoon.
Alena Catka led the Knights' effort with four goals and an assist to go with a solid five draw controls.
Neve Murphy added a hat trick while
Lindsey Fagan put up a two-goal effort with six draw controls.
Maggie Miller was sharp defensively with four caused turnovers and four ground balls, both team highs.
Abbey Fenton got the call in goal and made 10 saves.
Juniata got on the board twice to start the game off before Catka got the Knights' first goal with nine minutes left in the first. The Eagles picked up a woman-up goal at the 7:32 mark as the rest of the period was silent, making it 3-1 after 15 minutes.
Juniata scored the next two goals, again getting a good start to a quarter before Murphy responded at 9:17. Catka struck again with 7:49 left, right after a Juniata marker, making it 6-3. The Eagles picked up the half's last three goals to take a 9-3 lead at the break.
The Knights made a big comeback push to start of the third quarter as Fagan scored twice and Catka once, pulling them within three with 6:21 left. Juniata responded right back with two goals to close the third, and two to start the fourth as they had a 13-7 lead with 10:43 remaining. Over the rest of the game, Catka scored twice and Murphy once, but it wasn't enough as the Eagles picked up the win.
Neumann (1-2) will return to action on Tuesday when they visit Swarthmore College in another non-conference test. The game is scheduled for a 5:30 PM start.
