ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Basketball team will challenge Marymount University in the Atlantic East Conference Championship game on Saturday at the Mirenda Center.
Neumann, the top seed, finished the regular season with a 9-3 record. In the semis, they took out No. 5 Marywood by a final score of 89-69. Five Knights finished with double-digit points, led by
Donte Dupriest who had the double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
DJ Earl had 19 points,
TJ Lewis had 17,
Bryan Etienne had 12, and
Bryan Warren had 10. No. 2 Marymount advanced to the final, defeating No. 3Gwynedd Mercy by a final score of 102-86, after finishing their regular season with a 9-3 record.
Both teams split their two meetings as Marymount got the first win at home by a 72-62 margin on January 22nd. Lewis led with 19 points and Dupriest had 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Gary Francis contributed 10 points as well. On February 18
th, it was Neumann who grabbed the 91-84 win. Earl led with 23 points and Dupriest was right behind with 22. Etienne came off the bench with 17 points and Lewis followed with 11.
Overall, this season, the Knights were led by Dupriest's 18.6 points and 15.1 rebounds per game. Earl averaged 16.5 points while leading the team in steals with 32. Lewis scored 13.5 points per game with Etienne averaging 10.2 and
Mike Smith, III averaging 10.
The game is scheduled for a 2:00 PM tip off with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA National Championship tournament, along with the Atlantic East crown.
