IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University men's volleyball team battled Immaculata University in a five-setter on Friday evening, eventually falling 3-2.
Trey Edmonds notched a double-double with 16 kills and 14 digs.
Veryl Burns added eight kills and four block solos.
Mason Fleisher and
JP Perdomo each finished with five.
Christian DeMarco tallied 18 digs to lead the defense.
Christian Johnson handed out 16 assists while
Noah Banaag dished out 15.
The first set needed extra points. The Knights held a 24-23 advantage before the Mighty Macs rattled off the next three points for a 26-24 set one win.
Set two was tied late at 21. After trading some points, a kill by Edmonds gave Neumann the 25-23 win to tie the match at one.
The Knights jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the third set and continued to add to their lead. A kill by Banaag gave Neumann the 25-16 set win to go up 2-1 in the match.
Tied at 19 in the fourth set, Immaculata scored the next four points. Neumann was able to get the next two for a 23-21 score, but the Mighty Macs answered and took the fourth set 25-21 on a service ace.
The Mighty Macs took the momentum into the fifth set and knotted at five, scored the next five points for a 10-5 advantage. Immaculata scored the final four points of the match for a 15-7 set five win and 3-2 match win.
Neumann (2-3) will open its home schedule on Tuesday when it hosts Wilkes. Action is slated to get underway at 7:00 PM.
