CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision in a United East Conference match on Monday night.
Trey Edmonds led the Knights with 13 kills and 11 digs.
Victor John also had a strong offensive showing with 10 kills while
Noah Banaag dished out 31 assists. Defensively,
Veryl Burns had three block solos and one block assists.
Mason Fleisher added three block assists.
The action started slowly with both teams trading early points. With the score even at four, Wilson went on an 8-1 run, including six points in a row, as they took a 12-5 lead. Neumann fought back, scoring three of the next four points. The deficit stayed at five, but the Phoenix put up a late 6-1 run to take the first set, 25-15.
The second set started similarly to the first with the Knights carrying a 5-4 lead. Wilson would then take command with a 17-5 run, including a stretch of six in a row, for a 20-9 lead. Although Neumann would get within seven, they fell in the set, 25-16.
Wilson pulled ahead in the third with an 8-5 lead, but the Knights would fight back to pull within one at 12-11. The Phoenix used a 5-2 run to extend their lead, but Neumann grabbed seven of the next eight points to take a late 20-19 lead. They fell behind 24-23 and with their backs against the wall, scored the next three points to take the set, 26-24, keeping the match alive.
In the fourth, buoyed by the momentum of the third set win, the Knights took a quick 4-1 lead. Wilson came back to tie it up at four apiece and with the set tied at nine, they went on a 7-1 run to take a 15-10 lead. Neumann scored seven of nine but again, Wilson had an answer as they pulled ahead 23-19 on their way to a 25-20 set win.
Neumann (7-7, 1-1 United East) will return to action on Wednesday when they visit Bryn Athyn College for a 7:00 PM start.
