ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Baseball team were defeated by Albright College in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 17-8.
Anthony Rakotz led the Knights' effort on a 2 for 3 day with a double, two walks, and two runs batted in.
Donovan Brooks also drove in two runs on a 1 for 3 game. He added two walks and scored two runs.
Thomas Carroll was 2 for 3 with a walk and two runs scored.
After a scoreless first, Albright took a 2-0 lead in the second with an RBI triple and an RBI single. They doubled their lead in the top of the third with a two-run home run. In the bottom of the inning, Neumann sent 10 men to the plate. Brooks drove in two runs with a single through the right side of the infield.
Joe Boccio plated a run with a sacrifice fly and Brooks scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at four.
The Lions responded in a big way in the top of the fourth as they picked up six runs to retake the lead. Two RBI singles, a three-run inside-the-park home run, and an infield RBI single make it a 10-4 game. The Knights got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Rakotz rolled an RBI single to center. Albright got a run back in the top of the fifth on a RBI single but Neumann nabbed two runs in the bottom of the inning when
Tyler Kilmer drove in two for an 11-7 deficit.
Albright continued to pull away in the sixth with an RBI single, and in the seventh, thanks to a run-scoring error, an RBI single, and a run-scoring groundout. In the top of the eighth, the Lions added an RBI double and bases-loaded walk to lead by ten. Rakotz double home the final run of the day as the lead was too great to recover from.
Neumann (6-4) will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they host Penn State Abington for a 3:30 PM start.
