Baseball Doubles Up Penn State Abington

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Baseball team used a 10-run fourth inning to power past Penn State Abington on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 14-7.
 
JerVal Shuler had a strong day, hitting 3 for 4 with a hit-by-pitch, two runs batted in, and two runs scored. Brandon Colon also went 3 for 4 with a walk, two RBI, and a run. Chris Balshuweit was 2 for 4 with a walk, two RBI, and two run scored.
 
After a scoreless first inning, Neumann got on the scoreboard with RBI singles by Shuler and B. Colon. Penn State Abington responded with a roar in the top of the third. Three RBI singles, and a three-run triple saw them take a 6-2 lead.
 
In the pivotal fourth inning, the Knights sent 15 men to the plate. Donovan Brooks hit an RBI single to right, Tyler Kilmer doubled to left centerfield to drive in two, and Anthony Rakotz followed with his own two-run double giving them the lead at 7-6. Rakotz later scored on a passed ball, Joe Boccio scored on a wild pitch, Shuler hit an RBI single, Thomas Carroll scored on an errant pickoff attempt, and B. Colon hit an RBI single to make it a 12-6 game. The Nittany Lions got a run back in the fifth on an RBI ground out but the Knights put up two more runs in the eighth as Balshuweit hit a two-run single.
 
Nick Colon battled through six innings for his second win of the season. He allowed six earned runs on eight hits, a walk, and three hit-by-pitches, while striking out four. Rey Carrier picked up the three-inning save, his second save of the season. He allowed a hit, two walks, and struck out one.
 
Neumann (7-4) will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Moravian University for a doubleheader starting at 12:00 PM.
